Husky station closes doors after 40 years

After 40 years in the community, the Husky station on 56th Street in Tsawwassen filled its last tank of gas this week.

After 40 years in the community, the Husky station on 56th Street in Tsawwassen filled its last tank of gas this week.

The station was a hub of activity Wednesday as the pumps were dismantled, equipment was moved, inventory boxed and customers dropped by to say farewell.

The service station has been a fixture on Tsawwassen's main drag since 1972. Johny Singh, who has been running the station and garage for the last 25 years, is retiring and the station is closing down.

"I enjoyed myself, I had a good time. I had good customers," Singh said.

"I want to thank all my customers."

With a background in auto mechanics, Singh's garage at the station, which was also the only place in Tsawwassen carrying propane, became a go to place for many when car troubles arose.

Allan Abraham said Singh has helped him many times over the years with his vintage 1977 Chevy Caprice Classic. He described Singh as reliable, helpful and "honest as the day is long.

"A lot of people around here are going to miss him."
