The Ladner Business Association is rolling with the COVID-19 punches and creating a set of videos to encourage Deltans to shop local.
Jill McKight, LBA president says the creation of the videos is part of how the LBA is going to continue honouring long standing Ladner traditions like the lighting of the Ladner Village Christmas tree as well as the annual Christmas tree festival, both of which were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
McKnight said the first video will feature everyone’s favourite chimney hopper and reindeer tamer, Santa Clause and will culminate with him lighting the Christmas tree on the corner of 48th Avenue and Delta Street. This year the Christmas tree lighting will not be open to the public.
The tree lighting video will either be released this week, the usual date of the date of the Christmas tree light up, or it will be released as part of the City of Delta’s holiday light up on Dec. 1.
The second video being produced by the LBA will bring together a selection of local business owners to share a holiday message in the form of a Christmas poem.
McKnight says there could be as many as 18 business owners each reading different stanzas of the poem.
“It’s that whole idea of supporting local which has certainly been a big theme this year and how coming together is what community spirit is all about,” McKnight said.
McKnight anticipates the second video will also be launching close to Dec. 1.
