Reach Child and Youth Development Society's building campaign received a $4,800 boost from McHappy Day earlier this month.

For 20 years McDonald`s restaurants have supported communities across Canada with McHappy Day, a day where $1 from the sale of every coffee, Big Mac and Happy Meal goes to local children's charities.

This year on May 2, more than 14,000 McDonald's across Canada took part in McHappy Day, helping to raise a national total of $3.6 million.

For the sixth year in a row, Ladner and Tsawwassen McDonald's restaurants dedicated their McHappy Day proceeds to Reach Child and Youth Development Society, a local charity that has been helping children with special needs and their families since 1959.

Over 60 Reach volunteers came out to help on McHappy Day, treating kids and grown-ups to music, entertainment, balloon animals, face painting and other fun activities throughout the day. Volunteers included staff from Envision Financial and students from Delta Secondary as well as parents and youth who have attended Reach programs.

The proceeds will be put toward Reach's campaign to build a new child development centre in the heart of Ladner.
