A new dining option is coming to Tsawwassen Commons while another is expected to open sometime this month.

Mary Brown’s Chicken and Taters is opening at the Tsawwassen First Nation development sometime this fall according to Commons senior property manager Nancy Westfall.

Canadians were first introduced to Mary Brown's in 1969 when two Newfoundlanders, Pat Tarrant and Cyril Fleming, opened their first restaurant in St. John's. During that first year, they tripled in size, opening two more restaurants under the original name.

They changed their name to Mary Brown's soon after, in honour of the woman behind their signature chicken recipe. Since then Mary Brown's has become a household name, renowned for big, juicy, tender chicken. Today Mary Brown's has stores across Canada and throughout Metro Vancouver, including a Scott Road location that opened over a year ago.

Meanwhile, although no official date has been announced, Westfall expects Harry’s Fish and Chips to open “sometime this month” in the former Nando’s location. This will be the second location for the family-owned business. They opened their original restaurant in Vernon after the family moved to Canada from England.

The restaurant has been undergoing renovations in preparation for the opening and has advertised for staff over the past few weeks.

There hasn’t been a fish and chips specialty restaurant in the South Delta area since Robb’s Fish and Chips closed on 56th Street in Tsawwassen and a fire led to the closure of Chung’s Fish and Chips in Ladner Village back in 2015. Prior to that, Uncle Herbert's was a fixture in the village for years at the current Il Posto location.

Nando’s at Tsawwassen Commons was among several locations that were permanently closed across Canada by the parent company after the COVID-19 pandemic struck in March of 2020.

Westfall added the Commons will also be welcoming Evolution Beauty Bar which will be located near Kamome Japanese Restaurant. It’s also expected to open in the fall.
