Now is the time to nominate the local businesses, organizations and individuals that you’d like to see recognized and celebrated with a “Hats off to Excellence Award” from the Delta Chamber of Commerce.

This year’s awards gala is scheduled to be in-person again for Nov. 19 at Tsawwassen Springs, and Chair Rick Gibbs says he is excited to give folks in the Delta business community an opportunity to get together and celebrate everyone’s hard work.

“I think people are starving for a sense of normalcy in their lives, and I think as business leaders and leaders in the community, we have an obligation to ensure that the people in our community do feel the love and respect and acknowledgement,” says Gibbs.

And in order to have a successful awards gala, lots of nominations are needed – whether it’s for yourself, your own business or others.

There are seven different award categories that you can nominate Delta businesses or individuals for this year, with the Community Impact Award being a new one to look out for.

Up for grabs are the Citizen of the Year Award, the Community Impact Award, the Rising Star Business Award, the Small, Medium and Large Business of the Year Awards, and the Above and Beyond - Apprentice of the Year Award.

Each award has different eligibility criteria, which can be found on the virtual Nomination Form from the Delta Chamber of Commerce’s website.

This year’s gala will include the usual four-course dinner and a silent auction benefitting a to-be-decided local non-profit organization, and as long as COVID-19 restrictions aren’t imposed at that time, Gibbs is hoping to sell out the banquet hall’s 300+ seats.

When filling out the nomination form’s boxes requiring additional information about the person, business or organization you’re nominating, Gibbs encourages researching on people’s websites and potentially copy and pasting if you’re daunted by having to write something up, yourself.

“I can’t stress the importance this year of getting a lot of nominations, and it’s what our community needs. We need to celebrate big-time, and this is one way to do it,” he says.
