Rotarians raise $20,000 at wine gala

Proceeds from annual event at Beach Grove to support club's local and global initiatives

The Tsawwassen Rotary Club raised almost $20,000 at its sold out wine gala earlier this month at Beach Grove Golf Club.

Event chair Rob Gillespie said the annual gala included tasting that featured eight wine agents representing over 40 wines from around the world.

The event also had a Riedel tasting booth as well as a great selection of food, everything from cheese sampling stations to sushi.

Over 160 guests attended the March 10 fundraiser, which also included silent and live auctions. The almost $20,000 raised will go towards the work the service club does locally and internationally.

One of the top money making items auctioned off was a $1,000 shopping spree at Budget Foods that even came with a new freezer to keep all the groceries in.

There was also golf for three with Brent Derrheim, the head Pro at Beach Grove, as well as with his wife Tracey, who is being inducted into the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.

The final item of the night was a wall of wine that included 75 bottles donated by the Tsawwassen Rotary Club.

"This event was once again a lot of fun and offered a very upbeat and social atmosphere all while raising money for great causes in our community and across the globe," said Gillespie, owner of Muscle Memory.

"It is another great example of what South Delta as a community is all about," he added.
