South Delta Motors hosting women-only car workshop

Free session teaches the basics of vehicle maintenance

South Delta Motors in Tsawwassen is looking to help women make informed decisions about their vehicles through an upcoming workshop.

The third annual event, set for Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m., is free, but open only to women.

The purpose of the workshop is to empower and educate female drivers by teaching them the basics of vehicle maintenance.

It's a workshop for women of all ages; everyone from teens just getting their driver's licence to seniors that recently lost a partner that typically took car of their vehicle.

South Delta Motors recognizes we live in a busy society today, with self-serve gas bars at every corner. The clerk behind the cash register isn't trained to answer questions or allowed to step out to check your oil or tire pressure.

The objective of the evening is to make women feel more comfortable discussing issues with the mechanic when they bring their vehicle in for service and repairs.

Mechanics don't have a crystal ball and they definitely are not magicians, so before they can diagnose or fix the problem, they need to know the symptoms. And who knows your car better than you do?

Drivers might not know what is wrong with their vehicle, but with a little knowledge and use of their five senses, they'll be able to clearly explain the symptoms to their mechanic, saving time, money and frustration in the process.

South Delta Motors is at 5646-12th Ave. Pre-registration for the workshop is required at 604-943-1158.
