A local man has opened a one-of-a-kind business in Vancouver that carries everything you need to make a cocktail - except the alcohol.

Ladner resident Rod Moore ran a hockey store, Rocket Rods Hockey, in North Delta for eight years before selling it last spring. Since then, he has opened The Modern Bartender on East Pender in Chinatown.

The store brings together everything needed to stock a bar - from tools, syrups and mixers to recipe books, glassware and aging barrels - for the professional bartender or home enthusiast. He says this is the first store of its kind in Vancouver.

Moore was inspired after a short stint setting up and operating a Tiki patio for a friend's lounge over the summer. He discovered how difficult it can be to find the tools and supplies to outfit a bar.

The store held its official grand opening last month, and is now open six days a week (Tuesday through Sunday).
