A pair of Tsawwassen companies picked up a top prize at the recent HAVAN Ovation Awards.

Sarah Gallop Design Inc. and Kemp Construction Management Ltd, were named winner for Best Custom Home Under $1 million by the Homebuilders’ Association Vancouver, HAVAN (formerly GVHBA) the Ovation Awards Gala on May 4 at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver Hotel.

The award is for a beautiful beach home in Tsawwassen.

The house referred to as ‘Boundary Bay Beachside’ is a charming storey and a half home that fits perfectly in the beach community. Casual enough for day-to-day living with all the space for entertaining family, friends, neighbours and grandchildren, the back of the home has exterior folding doors, accesses a covered deck, swimming pool and pool house. Guest rooms are on the second storey along with the perfect media room.

“This Ovation award for our Tsawwassen beach house just goes to show that beautiful homes do not have to be large or over-the-top extravagant,” said Gallop. “Smart, efficient design coupled with tasteful materials and fixtures can produce fantastic homes that will stand the test of time. This was another great collaboration with Kemp Construction we are very proud of.”

Steve Kemp called the project “great on several levels.”

“We loved working with these homeowners who wanted a beautiful home to enjoy in their retirement,” said Kemp. “Regular meetings on budget and project updates throughout the project meant no surprises. We now have new neighbours and friends. This is the second award-winning project in Boundary Bay.”

You can attend the HAVAN Parade of Homes on Sunday, June 9 to see several other homes built and designed by both Kemp and SGDI located in Tsawwassen. See more details at: https://havan.ca/event/parade/.

SGDI was also recognized as a finalist in three other categories including best renovation: under $200,000, best custom home: under $1 million and best new kitchen: $100,000 and over.

Alair Homes Delta was also nominated as a finalist in four categories including: best kitchen and great-room renovation, best bathroom renovation: $35,000 and over, best renovation: $200,000-$399,000 and the coveted residential renovator of the year nomination.

Celebrating the 10th season of awards, almost 400 entries were submitted this year, a record for the Ovation Awards, which created fierce competition across 48 categories.

In total, 162 finalists were announced, representing the best projects in renovations, new-home construction, and design and building science across Metro Vancouver.
