Upscale shoe store looks to fill 'glaring hole' in Ladner Village

South Delta Heels Company opens

It's all about the shoes.

South Delta Heels Company opened in Ladner Village yesterday and owner Carol Miles is aiming to bring a downtown shopping experience to the suburbs to fill what she calls a "glaring black hole" in the local retail market.

"We don't have a higher end women's shoe store," she said.

Miles is hoping to fill that void with her new store.

"It's going to be a boutique experience."

It all started when Miles and her husband returned from a trip to South Africa where she discovered a line of shoes she said she would like to see in Canada.

While she hasn't yet secured that line for her new store, Miles has many other higher end brands already lining the shelves of the boutique, including Hunter, FitFlop, Dolce Vita and Sofft.

She said she's concentrating on stocking her store with brands that offer both comfort and style.

"There's no reason that a shoe has to hurt your feet."

Miles spent 25 years as a legal secretary and another five at Augustine House before making the leap to her own business.

She's taken over the retail space between Bombay Joes and Telus at the corner of Bridge and Delta streets and, after many weeks of construction, hiring and training staff, decorating the space and fine tuning the inventory, South Delta Heels Company opened its door to the public yesterday.

Miles describes the space as modern, hip and current but with a nod to the past.

South Delta Heels Company is located at 1044841 Delta St.
