Mother Nature is set to gift Father's Day this year with sunny skies and warm breezes across the Tri-Cities.

However, it might get a little too hot under the collar if you plan to be outside for long.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver, including its northeast corner of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and Port Moody, as temperatures are expected to reach 10 C above seasonal.

As of 6:15 a.m. today (June 19), a heatwave is creating a tide of high humidity, which could make 25 C feel like upwards of 30 C for inland communities between now and Tuesday (June 22).

"After a relatively cool start to the weekend, temperatures will be on the rise again on Father's Day," explains the national weather service.

"The current guidance indicates that the day time temperatures will peak in the low-thirties through Monday at locations away from the immediate coast. The ridge associated with this warm spell will start shifting inland on Tuesday, ushering the hot air into the Interior."

Barring any sudden changes, the pattern is set to end for the Tri-Cities by Wednesday (June 23) and return to zero humidity while remaining in the 20s amidst a mix of sun and clouds.

The same special weather statement is in effect for Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, Delta, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Langley.
