Black Bond Books in Ladner is thrilled to announce the book launch of Out of Darkness: Rumana Monzur’s Journey through Betrayal, Tyranny, and Abuse on Thursday, Aug. 8.
Join us for an evening with Monzur, who will share her inspiring story of resilience and hope.
In Out of Darkness, Monzur recounts her harrowing experience of losing her vision in 2011 due to a brutal attack, and her remarkable journey towards rebuilding her life. Described as “a love story shattered by violence and a quest for justice under the intense scrutiny of social media,” this book is a testament to Monzur’s unwavering determination and courage.
After enduring such a profound personal tragedy, Monzur not only became a staunch advocate for justice for intimate partner violence and for women’s right to an education. Monzur achieved her own academic goals by graduating from the University of British Columbia's law school in 2017. Her story serves as a powerful example for her own daughter and inspires people worldwide.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a special conversation at 7 led by Tom Smith, a local South Delta resident and friend of Monzur.
