Longtime Tsawwassen resident Brad Sherwin has announced he will seek election as a Delta school trustee.
Sherwin, 46, a business and communication strategy consultant, has many years of experience developing and executing strategic plans, building and managing budgets and listening to people.
"I have seen many organizations succeed when they listen to their customers. The school board is no different. I watched many good ideas pass by during the school closure process without consideration or discussion. There is energy and passion in our community; we have to be open to hearing and considering different opinions."
Sherwin also has a different approach when it comes to the government's funding of the school system.
"I don't believe that simply asking for more money will achieve what we need to achieve in our schools. We have to build a case that not only outlines the reasons for additional funding, but also creates win-win scenario with the provincial government."
Sherwin is active in the community, coaching minor hockey and volunteering for events such as the Tour de Delta and the Delta Triathlon. No stranger to community forums, he's attended many school board meetings, Delta council meetings and public hearings.
"My children are part of the school system in Delta, so I have a personal interest in the success and future of the school district," said Sherwin
A life-long learner, Sherwin received his MBA from Simon Fraser University in 2001.
"I look forward to discussing the issues we face in our school system as we progress through the campaign, something we didn't get a chance to do in the 2008 election," he said.
"There are a number of quality candidates in this election, and I believe that Delta students and parents will be well served by the next board. I would be proud and honoured to be one of those chosen to lead the school district into the future."
Sherwin has lived in Tsawwassen for 16 years with his wife and three children.
