Babytime and Storytimes are cornerstone programs at the Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL). Delta Libraries commit to meeting the early literacy needs of their youngest customers.
Literacy starts with spoken language. Social interactions and human relationships can also offer the opportunity to learn language. And reading is a skill learned from instruction and helped by frequent readings of stories, poems and rhymes. Shared book reading develops language, knowledge, early literacy skills and social relationships.
Start early with Babytime! Bouncing, singing, rhyming, and stories develop speech and language skills. It is a fun, social bonding activity for babies 23 months and younger and caregivers. Storytime introduces your kids, ages two to six, to the love of books and language, preparing them to learn to read. Enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and more.
George Mackie Library in North Delta offers Toddler Storytime dedicated to one to three-year-olds. It has the same great objectives as Storytime, plus opportunities to bond and socialize.
Can’t make it to the library during the day? Tuck into stories, songs, rhymes and more at Pyjama Storytime. We encourage kids to wear their pyjamas and bring their second favourite stuffie. (You want the favourite stuffie to stay safe at home!)
