Events like the Terry Fox Run (2019 event pictured) are back on the schedule as Delta returns to a more fullsome schedule of community events in the months to come.

Get your pen and calendar ready because, starting this fall, Delta will be hosting a more generous lineup of community gatherings and events for the first time in a long time.

Council, during their July 26 meeting, discussed and endorsed the city’s proposed events calendar for the rest of this year and all of 2022.

The events calendar reflects long-standing and beloved events that were all cancelled in the past year and a half due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here are some highlights of this year’s remaining calendar.

September will include the Terry Fox Run on the 19th.

In October, the Kinsmen Club of Ladner-Tsawwassen will be holding their classic Crab & Corn Fest and Delta residents can get celebrate the spooky season with several different Halloween events.

November will bring back Remembrance Day events, as well as the beginning of Christmas events like the Ladner Village Christmas Open House and the Ladner Business Association’s (LBA) Christmas Tree Festival.

December is full of events to spread holiday cheer, including the LBA’s Breakfast with Santa on the 4th and a Christmas concert on the 7th at the Ladner Community Centre.

“It’s certainly a much different list than we’ve seen in other years prior to COVID, but it fulfills the process of reopening and considering events in light of reopening,” said Coun. Jeannie Kanakos during discussion at the July 26th council meeting.

During the discussion, Kanakos asked Parks, Recreation & Culture to lay out future calendar lists in a way that makes it clearer where all these events are taking place, as she said it was important that there are cultural events going on equally within the three communities of Delta.

“Delta’s events enrich the lives of residents by providing opportunities for the community to connect and celebrate together. These events contribute to social and economic wellbeing, provide valuable volunteer opportunities and build a sense of community, pride and spirit,” reads the Parks, Recreation & Culture department’s report to council.

The Optimist will have more details on these events as they start to come up on the calendar.
