Clean-up efforts rewarded in Boundary Bay

George Brazer thanked for his daily talks on the boat launch
Boundary Bay clean-up award
George Brazer was presented with the Order of Boundary Bay during a small presentation ceremony on Labour Day Monday.

The Boundary Bay boat launch was spotless as usual when friends and neighbours gathered there on a beautiful Labour Day morning on Monday to recognize one of their own, George Brazer, for his labours.

George and his wife Beverly were the guests of honour at this informal and unique award ceremony.

He is the first recipient of the newly minted Order of Boundary Bay for his extraordinary public service to the community.

George has attended to the cleaning of the concrete boat launch daily for many years.

Each morning he brings his own broom and shovel to the task of cleaning off sand, seaweed, shells, driftwood, and other flotsam and jetsam that washes up regularly.

This humble work has given George an opportunity to give back to his neighbourhood in his retirement years and has provided all who access the beach by way of the ramp, a safe, clean and functional route.

The recognition included a trophy, a certificate signed by many neighbours, flowers and a chorus of enthusiastic thanks.

The next time you stroll to the beach along the boat launch, or just see George hard at it, thank him for his kind gift to all of us.

He may have learned many years ago in law school what the rest of us ought to remember….that brushing daily matters!
