Delta council gives thumbs-up for Superman & Lois

A Delta staff report notes the city does not have any concerns as the use is temporary and impacts to farming are minimal and can be mitigated

The Man of Steel will be returning to Ladner.

Delta council this week agreed that the city has no objection to an application for a non-farm use at 3010 River Road West to continue filming the TV series Superman & Lois.

The farm is the set for Clark Kent’s childhood home in the fictional town of Smallville. It’s located east of Brunswick Point and is within the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The Agricultural Land Commission must also approve the application, although filming activity has already started.

The film set includes temporary structures including a new farm house facade and grain silo as well as a new gravel driveway.

A report to council notes that should the commission approve the non-farm use application, a temporary use permit would be required and would be brought forward separately for council's consideration.

The applicant is requesting the temporary use permit for three years to allow the film production to have a level of certainty while they film on a season-by-season basis.

The ALC normally has a 10-day maximum film requirement in effect and aspects of filming have already begun under those conditions.

The CW Network series follows Clark Kent (played by Tyler Hoechlin) and his wife Lois Lane (played by Elizabeth Tulloch) who return to Smallville with their two teen children.

The series was on a hiatus for almost two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other post-production delays.
