Delta Fire is back on scene Tuesday morning as they continue to investigate a large wood mulch fire in Tilbury.
Firefighters received a call of heavy smoke at a business at 9486 River Road just after 7 p.m. Monday night (June 5).
Deputy Fire Chief Tim Ipsen said the fire was in a large pallet pile roughly 100 by 100 feet wide and 40 to 50 feet high.
“The fire was upgraded pretty quickly due to the mass of the fire and there was concern because the fire was close to Burns Bog as well as a lot of trees in the area,” he said. “Metro Vancouver was called and had a crew on stand-by. We had 16 firefighters and four apparatus on scene. It was a strictly defensive attack and we had crews on scene for close to five hours. We also had an excavator brought in helping to pull the fire apart as we were watering it down.”
Ipsen said no cause has been determined. No injuries were reported.
