Delta Firefighter’s Union Local 1736 has thrown their support behind Mayor George Harvie for October’s municipal election.
The endorsement was announced tonight (May 31) during Achieving for Delta’s North Delta campaign launch.
“Over his long career with the City of Delta, Mayor Harvie has been an unequivocal supporter of Delta Firefighters,” said Local 1763 president Mike McMillan. “Mayor Harvie has always been there for us when we needed it, and tonight, we are standing here to support him. Local 1763 is proud to fully endorse Mayor Harvie’s bid for re-election as Mayor of Delta.”
Harvie said he is honoured to receive the endorsement from the dedicated women and men of Local 1763 who work hard to keep the community safe each and every day.
“As mayor, I will continue to support our Delta Firefighters by ensuring they have adequate funding to do their jobs, buy new equipment, and save lives,” said Harvie.
Also on Tuesday night, Harvie announced the first pillar of his re-election campaign: “Achieving Safe Communities.”
Harvie has committed to moving forward with the procurement of a much-needed specialized watercraft to support emergency response operations on local waterways, as well as additional training resources for firefighters and police officers.
