Cyclists using Highway 91 will face a detour for up to one year.
According to the city’s engineering department, the province’s Highway 91/17 Upgrade project now underway now means the shoulders along the Highway 91 Connector will be temporarily closed to cyclists.
The shoulder closures are required to maintain three lanes of traffic in each direction during construction.
Cyclists will be directed to use an alternate detour route using existing cycling routes and a temporary route along Nordel Way.
Signage will be in place to advise cyclists of the detour and provide wayfinding information.
The Ministry of Transportation has advised Delta HUB Cycling, B.C. Cycling Coalition, emergency responders and the project's Traffic Advisory Committee of the cycling detour.
In addition, the ministry will be advising the public of the detour via mail to local residents and businesses.
