The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 17 to 25 and there are a number of planned cleanup sites in Delta.

Ladner's Laura Jordison is co-ordinating a cleanup at the South Arm Marshes Wildlife Management Area on Sept. 17.

"I actually suggested this site because of its unique designation," says Jordison, who notes she likes to go there for bird watching.

She says she's noticed over the last few years that the area is being used as a place to party.

The meeting location for the cleanup is at the north end of Ferry Road. It starts at 11: 30 a.m.

Jordison says volunteers could expect to be cleaning up for approximately two hours.

Jordison, who first heard about the cleanup through volunteering at the Vancouver Aquarium, has been leading cleanups for a couple of years in different locations.

Over 2,200 kilometres of shoreline was cleaned and 98,000 kilograms of garbage was removed last year through the national program.
