The city’s amendments to the accessible parking regulations were endorsed by the Mayor's Task Force on Building Permits and Development Applications and the Mobility and Accessibility Committee.

Delta council last Monday gave final approval to bylaw changes to update the existing regulations for required accessible parking spaces, changes which include a requirement for van accessible parking.

The changes apply to residential and non-residential uses, including civic and public buildings.

The requirements include having van accessible parking where accessible parking is required, as well a requirement for residential visitor parking to include accessible parking.

Of the required accessible parking spaces for a new development, 50 percent will be required as van accessible parking at a width of 11 feet.

No additional enforcement provisions are needed to uphold the bylaw changes, according to civic staff.

Meanwhile, the required number of parking spaces for the Scott Road Corridor and Ladner Village are still under separate reviews.
