Mayor Lois Jackson, accompanied by staff and members of the Surdel Scout Group, planted a tree outside the North Delta Recreation Centre Wednesday in honour of the first National Tree Day.

National Tree Day was established by the federal government earlier this year to serve as a celebration for all Canadians to appreciate the great benefits that trees provide us - clean air, wildlife habitat, reducing energy demand and connecting with nature.

The Corporation of Delta is committed to increasing its municipal tree canopy and positive environmental change through its Trees for Tomorrow program. The program invites Delta homeowners to request one or two trees to be planted on municipal property adjacent to their home.

For more information, visit www.corp.delta.bc.ca/trees, call Delta's engineering department at 604-946-3260 or drop by municipal hall.
