Delta police are reminding residents that there's a higher fine awaiting anyone who sets off fireworks during Diwali or Halloween.

The City of Delta has raised the fine for using fireworks to $500, police say on their Facebook page.

"As Diwali and Halloween approach, our department is focused on our community’s safety this festive season. Last Halloween was a busy night, with our team seizing illegal fireworks and replica weapons (pictured), and this year we’re prepared to help keep celebrations safe," police said online.

Officers will have an increased presence, actively seizing illegal fireworks to support a safe and joyful season for everyone, police said.
