Let's take another step back in time and visit the McKenzies.

This Delta Archives photo from 1923 shows Alice and William McKenzie with daughter Freda, as well as Winnifred McKenzie and their dog, at their home 45th Avenue.

The McKenzies settled in Ladner in 1918.

William McKenzie had trained in optometry and watch-making in Boston, Massachusetts, and upon arriving in Delta purchased a local jewelry business on Delta Street, which he ran until 1944.

Freda attended elementary and high school in Ladner.

After she obtained her teaching certificate in 1930, Freda taught school in Delta, and her first assignment was teaching at the one-room Crescent Island School.

The McKenzie family occupied the house until 1965.

The McKenzie Residence at 4994 45th Ave. is still there today and on Delta's Heritage Register.
