Delta's multi-million dollar clubhouse plan for Tsawwassen lawn bowlers

The final budget for construction of the new clubhouse still requires council approval

The project involves the design and construction of a new community fieldhouse to serve as the Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club’s clubhouse.

Delta council has approved a recommendation to award a contract for an architectural firm to complete a detailed design for a new Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club clubhouse.

The contract is for $117,892.

In the summer of 2019, the city awarded a $32,700 contract to the same architectural firm for the preliminary and schematic design.

The total design and construction costs for the clubhouse are estimated to be $2 million.

The project stems from a tri-party memorandum of understanding between the KinVillage Association, the Tsawwassen Lawn Bowling Club and the City of Delta.

The lawn bowling club currently has a clubhouse at KinVillage in an area called North Court.

KinVillage was not willing to enter into a long-term lease with the club and notified the club the North Court building might be redeveloped.

Council last year received a report on an alternate location for the lawn bowling green and clubhouse and approved in principle relocating the facility to the northeast corner of Winskill Park, also adding a parking lot and a replacement soccer field.

Staff also met with representatives of various sports organizations and, according to a report to council, the stakeholders were supportive of the plan.

The new location provides better access, increases parking and provides for a replacement soccer field where the bowling green currently exists, the report notes, adding the project will maximize the use of that entire corner of the park.
