Delta Chamber of Commerce executive director Peter Roaf was honoured with the Gerry Frederick Memorial Executive of the Year Award last weekend in Smithers.

Roaf was recognized by his peers with the award at the British Columbia Chamber Executives annual general meeting and conference.

"There are many chamber managers throughout B.C. who do such an excellent job of supporting small business through the chamber network. To be recognized by them is truly a surprise and an honour," said Roaf, who has been with the Delta chamber since 2007.

Roaf said the chamber board, committees, members and volunteers, as well as B.C. Chamber Executives leaders and the Rotary Club of Ladner, deserve to share the award.

The award is presented annually to a chamber executive who has made a difference in their community, fostered membership growth in the chamber and has been willing to take risks to achieve change. The award also recognizes an executive who has served as a champion of the chamber network, as a mentor to new executives and deemed to be a leader by their peers and their chamber.

"Peter Roaf is all of these and more," said Deb McClelland, past president of the British Columbia Chamber Executives. "He has been a mentor to chamber executives across the province and has provided guidance and leadership to strengthen the chamber movement as the voice of business."

In his support, Delta Chamber of Commerce past president John Appleby recognized Roaf's contribution through "his relationship and support to his board, his role in the community, and his contribution to the growth and development of the chamber, all undertaken with quiet efficiency."

The award was presented to Roaf by the 2010 recipient Bruce Carter, CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, who commented, "Peter has been involved in many projects and most recently has put considerable effort into the B.C. Chamber Executives organization. His ability to get things done is truly remarkable. Peter's leadership and mentoring is leaving a lasting legacy in both his community and the B.C. Chamber Executives."

Roaf noted he completed a good part of last year as interim president of the B.C.
