Delta Firefighters' Charitable Society's annual Boot Drive takes place on Friday and Saturday in front of stories throughout the city.

A popular and key fundraising campaign for the Delta Firefighters’ Charitable Society (DFCS) will be taking place outside stores across the city this weekend.

The DFCS’s annual Boot Drive will take place Friday (Oct. 7) and Saturday (Oct. 8). Delta firefighters will be on hand to accept donations that will be forwarded to Muscular Dystrophy Canada (MDC) and other local charity organizations.

The 2021 campaign was a tremendous success with firefighters combining for over 350 hours of volunteer time and raising $50,000. The record total helped make up for the DFCS being unable to host its annual Harvest Festival since 2019 due to the pandemic.

“The Harvest Fest is normally a huge generator for our charitable society,” explained Delta Deputy fire Chief Dave Wood. “With this Boot Drive, it sure has been a big help getting the funds so they can do their good deeds. Pretty much every grocery store, liquor store, coffee shop, you name it and our firefighters will be out there this weekend.”

From a convenience and safety perspective, debit/credit card terminals will be an option at each location so people who wish to donate can simply ‘tap’ and have a contactless transaction.
