The project represents years of planning and a commitment to improving the community’s infrastructure, said Mayor George Harvie.

The City of Delta next week will begin the second phase of the 72 Avenue Roadway Improvements Project in North Delta.

To start Oct. 21, the project is to improve safety, traffic flow and overall infrastructure along the 72nd Avenue corridor between 115th Street and 120th Street (Scott Road).

The planned improvements include road widening to four lanes with a centre median island from 115th Street to Scott Road, new LED Street lighting along the corridor, installation of a new traffic signal at 118th Street and 72nd Avenue, upgraded bus stops and sidewalk improvements and relocation of hydro and telecommunication poles, as well as new signal equipment to support U-turns at 116th Street and Nicholson Road.

According to the city, construction is anticipated to be completed by fall 2025.

Residents and commuters should expect some traffic disruptions during construction, with efforts made to minimize inconvenience.

Major activities like asphalt paving will be scheduled at night, when possible, to reduce daytime impacts, and residents will be notified in advance, the city notes.

The completed first phase of the corridor improvement project, between Westview Drive and 115th Street, consisted of the relocation of the curb, gutter and sidewalks, road widening as well as new street lighting along the corridor.

There are also new traffic signals, in addition to drainage improvements and a concrete median island along the centre of the avenue.
