Delta’s Emergency Response Shelter (Extreme Weather Shelter), located at Ladner United Church, recently received a financial boost thanks for the Delta Foundation.

In an email to the Foundation and copied to Delta Optimist, shelter coordinator Shirley Baker expressed her gratitude and thanks for the Delta Foundation in awarding a $1,000 COVID-19 relief grant, which will enable the shelter to continue offering hospitality and comfort for our homeless in our community.

“The money will be used to buy gift cards, food and to help any who come to our door needing that little extra during the coming months ahead and into the fall,” said Baker. “This extension from our cold weather season, the last three months to assist our homeless when there has been no availability for them to seek any kind of refuge has been a blessing for our church to offer this space, during this pandemic. I would also like to acknowledge our volunteers and community in supporting us during this challenging and difficult time. Even though we are limited to the numbers of people we can accommodate, we have received guests every night with the exception of two nights.”
