With more snow and cold temperatures on the way, Delta’s two extreme weather shelters will remain open.

“As low overnight temperatures remain in the forecast through the weekend, it is likely that the alert will be extended on Friday morning through Sunday night,” said City of Delta corporate social planner Olga Shcherbyna. “I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thanks to all the staff and volunteers at both Delta EWR site who have been working tirelessly over the last several weeks and during the holiday season to keep shelters open.

“We also know that local businesses and many community members have donated to both shelters, including warm cloth, food, bottled water, hot meals and even appliances. It is heartwarming to see this level of community support and caring. Thanks so much for all you help.

The South Delta shelter, located at Ladner United Church (4960 48th Ave.) operates between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. The intake will be open until the site is full. Showers and laundry is available onsite. Light refreshments offered, bust tickets and gift cards provided.

Guests who receive shelter will be provided a hot meal at night and breakfast to go in the morning, along with fresh socks, toiletries and other essential items.
