As Delta Police, and search and rescue volunteers continue to comb the waters and lands around Centennial Beach, the family of a missing Surrey woman is thanking everyone for their efforts.

Wenyan Lan, age 54, was reported missing to Surrey RCMP by her family after she was believed to have gone crabbing in the late morning or afternoon on June 14.

DPD officers joined the search for Lan the night of June 14 when her car was located at Centennial Beach. Search and Rescue was engaged and continued searching throughout the night.

Search and Rescue resumed their efforts the morning of June 15. The Coast Guard Hovercraft also joined the search over the waters of Centennial Bay.

DPD assumed conduct of the investigation from RCMP and investigators have been on the file ever since.

On Tuesday afternoon, the B.C. RCMP Air 1 helicopter as well as the Coast Guard Hovercraft and a DPD drone were all deployed in a search initiated following discovery of Lan’s waders near the shoreline off of the 64 St. trailhead of the Boundary Bay Dyke trail.

Marc Horn, who is the husband of Wenkui Lan, Wenyan’s sister, told the Optimist in an email Tuesday night, that they arrived in B.C. last Thursday from the U.S. to assist in the search.

“Since we have been here we have gotten tremendous help and support from the community, the Surrey RCMP and the Delta Police,” said Horn. “We want to thank the DPD for their ongoing efforts to locate Wenyan, and express our respect and tremendous gratitude to the DPD, the Coast Guard, RCMP and all others involved for their rapid and thorough response today.”

Lan is described as: 5’3” tall, approximately 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She is believed to be wearing hip waders and carrying gear associated to crabbing.

DPD are asking anyone who believe they may have seen Lan or have information that could aid this investigation to call police at 604-946-4411.
