Delta-Richmond East MP Kerry-Lynne Findlay says Canadians have a new opportunity to recognize the exceptional contributions that volunteers make in their communities.

Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Diane Finley announced this week the Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards call for nominations deadline is extended until Oct. 14.

"The Government of Canada is proud of the millions of volunteers, businesses and not-for-profit organizations that generously give their time, experience and expertise to make their communities stronger," said Finley.

"The Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards will celebrate the exceptional contributions of people and organizations across Canada and we hope they encourage others to participate and make a difference in their own communities."

The awards will recognize individuals or groups of volunteers, businesses and not-for-profit organizations in five regions across Canada, and will offer a national award in two categories: one for lifelong achievement and one for new volunteers.
