The B.C. Teachers Federation is once again saying it’s clear that the existing safety measures in schools are not enough.

Five Delta public schools are on the Fraser Health Authorities latest list of schools having COVID-19 exposures.

According to the list posted online Tuesday morning, Cliff Drive Elementary had an exposure event on Feb. 16.

The health region won’t specify whether a staff member or student was infected with coronavirus.

The other public schools on the list include Cougar Canyon Elementary (Feb. 9, 19, 11, 12, 17), Delview Secondary (Feb. 10, 11, 12), Hawthorne Elementary (Feb. 16) and McCloskey Elementary (Feb. 10, 11). There's also a sixth Delta school on the list with the addition of the private school SouthPointe Academy (Feb. 16, 17).

The health region last weekend issued notifications that Hellings Elementary in North Delta, as well as six Surrey schools, had exposures to the COVID-19 UK variant.

The Hellings school community had an earlier notification that someone infected with the coronavirus attended the school on Feb. 2 and 4 and further testing later revealed it was an exposure to the variant.

Health officials yesterday said rapid testing was underway to determine if anyone else may have contracted the more easily transmissible version of the virus.
