Four people were stabbed in separate incidents around Vancouver overnight.
The stabbings happened during a 10-hour span starting at approximately 10 p.m.
Two of the stabbings happened in the Downtown Eastside, while the others occurred in the West End and Killarney neighbourhoods.
Vancouver police officers were first called to a home near Boundary Road and East 45th Avenue on the Vancouver-Burnaby border Friday (March 3) night around 10 p.m.
The victim, 22-year-old Caleb Morin, was taken to hospital where he died of his stab wounds and is the city's fifth homicide of 2023.
Shortly after, a 44-year-old man arrived at hospital with serious stab wounds. The incident is believed to have happened between Gore Street and Dunlevy Avenue in the Downtown Eastside. The suspect has not been identified and the incident is currently under investigation.
Three hours later at 1:30 a.m. Saturday (March 4) morning, officers found a 36-year-old man suffering multiple stab wounds after receiving a 911 call about a person being assaulted near Harwood and Burrard streets just south of Davie Village. A suspect has not been identified.
Officers were called to the fourth stabbing around 6:30 a.m. this morning (March 4) when staff at a shelter near Hastings and Carrall streets reported that a man in his forties had been stabbed. The suspect was still on scene and was arrested when police arrived. The victim's injuries are not life-threatening.
“These are all very serious incidents that strained the capacity of our front-line first responders,” says Const. Tania Visintin. “We are continuing to collect evidence that will hopefully lead us to solve each of these crimes.”
The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says that the four cases do not appear connected and that each is under investigation.
VPD asks anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call police.
