Delta Chamber of Commerce recognizes community leaders at annual gala

VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD

Steve Grant (right) received the award from Kay Gandham of sponsor Envision Financial Grant has spent the last 35 years, 17 in Delta, combining two of his favourite things - sports and coaching youth. He is a respected coach, referee, umpire and executive in youth soccer, baseball and softball.

RISING STAR AWARD

Yvonne and David Anderson (right) received the award from Jeff Norris of Kwantlen Polytechnic University. The Andersons created Santevia Pure Earth Water in January 2008, which manufactures water filtration systems that use an eight-stage filtration and re-mineralization system.

SPECIAL EVENTS & TOURISM AWARD

Curt Jantzen (left) received the award from Jane Ilott of the Ladner Business Association. Jantzen's Delta Music Makers founded Ladner Bandfest in 2004, which has grown to become the largest gathering of adult musicians in Western Canada.

DELTA ROTARY BUSINESS ETHICS AWARD

Rob Wright (left) of South Shore Cycles accepted the award from Rotarian Tom Smith. Since the store opened in North Delta in 2003, owner Wayne Hobbis has not only worked on ensuring his customers are satisfied but he has encouraged people to use bicycles for transportation and supported many charitable causes.

BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

Jeanette McCall (left), owner of West Coast Seeds, received the award from Wayne Rothenberger of Delta Cable. The small Ladner-based company continues to offer untreated seeds, specializing in certified organic and heirloom varieties.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

Carlene Lewall (right) received the award from Delta Optimist publisher Lori Chalmers. Lewall has been involved with Delta Gymnastics as a volunteer coach and administrator for 31 years and has been a tireless advocate for the club and youth sports in the community.
