The BCCDC notes that the number of COVID-19 deaths has seen a recent decrease.

The COVID-19 outbreak at Mountain View Manor in Ladner has been declared over.

That’s according to information provided the province in Wednesday's joint COVID-19 statement from Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

The Fraser Health Authority (FHA) declared an outbreak at the long-term care home earlier this month after two staff members tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to the FHA, enhanced safety measures were immediately implemented.

An update from the health authority late last week noted that only the two staffers had tested positive and no other staff member or resident contracted the virus.

According to the B.C. Centre for Disease Control’s latest situation report, published online Wednesday Feb. 17, there have been 71,602 COVID-19 cases in this province to the end of week five (Jan. 31 to Feb. 6) of 2021.

Cumulatively, there have been 3,953 cases hospitalized in this province.

The number of care facility outbreaks has been declining since week 51 and, cumulatively, there have been 277 care facility outbreaks in B.C.

Almost three-quarters of all COVID-19 deaths in B.C. have been associated with care facility outbreaks, while 72 per cent of the care facility deaths (875 people) were those over 70.

The majority of deaths continue to be associated with care homes and are elderly residents.
