Highway 17 semi update
Crew have been busy Thursday afternoon cleaning up a commercial truck accident on Highway 17 in Delta.

Some prompt work by emergency and maintenance crews is expected to have a westbound section of Highway 17 in Delta re-opened in time for the afternoon rush hour following a commercial truck accident hours earlier.

Delta Police and Delta Fire were on the scene to deal with the flipped truck that appeared to be carrying scrap metal. The truck and debris completely blocked both westbound lanes in the 6500 block of Highway 17 between 80th Street and the Highway 99 on ramp. Traffic was detoured to 80th Street.

Fortunately, the driver suffered only minor injuries. The extensive clean-up included bringing in a skid-steer loader.

“Westbound should be open within the next half hour, crews putting down absorbent material and cleaning up last minute debris from the crash,” tweeted Delta Police Cst. Ken Uspiuk, just after 2 p.m.
