Home for the Holidays: T’was the night before Christmas in Delta

A Delta grandmother's own version of the holiday classic
Nean Christmas poem photo

T’was the night before Christmas

(No, it is not that old story!)

All the magic was back.

Claire and Christopher had worked hard to do that!

The carols, they’d carolled.

The cookies, they’d cooked.

The tree was alight

Dad was reading a book.

Christopher was playing with LEGO again,

As Claire was listening to the magical words

Of Dad’s whispered voice, this story she heard:

On Christmas Eve

When children are asleep and their parents too,

The magic of Christmas fills the house through!

“Santa is coming!” Tinkerbell shouts from the tree.

Frosty joins in with giggles of glee.

Spiderman works at getting all the lights on

With help from Rudolph -(You know his nose shone

on every branch and every light

Checking to see all things were just right!)

Darth Vadar was HO-HO-ing

Instead of HO- PAH -ing.

Chewbaca and Grinch had just started playing

The music of Christmas with bells they were shaking.

An angel sung out “The whole tree is done!

Now, finally, finally,  Santa can come!”

Tinkerbell was in charge and she looked round the room:

The cookies and milk were under the tree,

The magic of Christmas was finally free

To fill every corner, to light every room.

It lived in their hearts,

Brought JOY to their faces

And LOVE to all places.

The party was rocking, the tree it was swaying, when the top Angel shouted

“Time to stop playing!

Pick up the tinsel! Put back the balls!

Santa is coming! Santa is coming!

Now dash way, dash way all!”

The moose on the tree fell over a log

And the cat on the tree meowed to a dog.

They hurried, they scurried

They set things just right.

When Santa appeared, his eyes shone so bright.

“This family is good, this family is kind.”

They share their love with each other

And.... they love their grandmother!

The true joy of Christmas they have wisely found.

May it stay with them always the whole year round!”

(Is that why Grandma Nean says MERRY CHRISTMAS

every time she sees them?)

Santa finished his work Then he sat down to eat

The milk and the cookies

They had left as a treat.

“Yummy! Yummy! This is good for my tummy!”

But more cookies now and I will have a big bummy!”

As Santa left slowly and turned off the light,

He smiled as he wished

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!

Christmas is special

Christmas is kind

It teaches you to share

It teaches you to care.

For yourself

For others.

For everyone who needs love,

ALWAYS SHARE the magic of Christmas.

-Much love from Grandma Nean
