Youngsters can get a taste of world class cycling by taking part in Kids Crits (short for criterium) today and Saturday.

Children have enjoyed the annual event in Ladner Village for years and in 2011 those in North Delta will have one of their own as a Kids Crit will be held today prior to the MK Delta Criterium.

Children will be divided into two groups: six- to eight-year-olds and nine- to 11-year-olds.

In North Delta, the younger riders will start at 5:45 p.m. and cover a half-kilometre course; the older group gets going at 6 p.m. and will make a lap of the 1.3-kilometre loop.

In Ladner on Saturday afternoon, the young cyclists will make a .9-kilometre loop on the course used for that evening's Brenco Criterium. The younger riders will start at 4:30 p.m.; the older group at 4:45 p.m.

Registration, which is free, can be done at www.deltarec.ca or by calling 604-952-3000.

Helmets are mandatory and bikes must be in safe working condition.

All participants will be presented with a medal.

The community ride on Saturday morning won't take place this year.
