Kinsmen continue support of Reach

Latest donation to fund therapy

Reach Child and Youth Development Society recently received a $1,000 donation from the Kinsmen Club of Ladner/Tsawwassen towards its therapy programs. The donation will help provide therapy to children in Delta who are on the waitlist.

Reach provides specialized speech and language, physio and occupational therapy to children with special needs from birth to age six in Delta.

Recently there were 105 Delta children on the waitlist to receive speech, occupational and physiotherapy services. Reach fundraises for additional dollars that will help provide therapy to children in important early years when they need it, rather than place those children on waitlists and miss critical opportunities in children's development.

"This funding from the Kinsmen Club is so important to Reach and the families we support," said executive director Renie D'Aquila. "It allows us to intervene early in more children's lives. By targeting therapy services to children with delays in communication or motor skills in the preschool years and at a time when brain development is most rapid, we are able to most effectively address developmental gaps and provide needed support and help to the family.

"By doing this we provide the greatest long term benefit to the child, the family and society as a whole."

The Kinsmen Club of Ladner/Tsawwassen has been a longtime supporter of Reach, and is currently in partnership with Reach in the project to build a child development centre in the heart of Ladner. The centre will be located at the current location of Kinsmen House next to the Ladner Pioneer Library.

The cost of the new building will be approximately $4 million and will come from fundraising in the community.
