On Friday afternoon, KinVillage provided an update on the two COVID-19 outbreaks at the facility.

KinVillage is sadly reporting two resident deaths as a result of a COVID-19 outbreak on the third floor of South Court.

In an update sent to the Optimist Friday afternoon, KinVillage provided information on the outbreak at South Court as well as the one at West Court.

“Another round of testing of all staff and third floor residents was completed on Monday Jan. 18. We are pleased to advise there are no new positive cases. Previously, a total of four residents tested positive for COVID-19 and it is with great sadness we announce the recent loss of two of our dear residents to the virus,” said KinVillage. “This is heartbreaking news for our KinVillage community. We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the residents; our thoughts are with them during this very difficult time.”

KinVillage said the next round of testing is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25.

“We are cautiously optimistic that results will all be negative and we can begin working with Fraser Health/Public Health in the step-down process of the outbreak,” said KinVillage.

As for the West Court (care home) outbreak, this week’s testing of both residents and staff, revealed no new cases in staff and, since the outbreak was declared on Jan. 9, no residents have tested positive. Repeat testing of staff will occur on Jan. 25. Four of the five staff who tested positive have now returned to work.

“We are cautiously optimistic that results from the next round of testing will be all negative at which time we hope to begin working with Public Health in consultation with Fraser Health’s Medical Health Officer in the step-down process of the outbreak,” added KinVillage. “The two outbreaks are in separate buildings and are unrelated. Due to the single site order issued last May, staff are assigned to work in either South or West Court, not both. In each building, we continue to work closely with Fraser Health including infection prevention and control specialists, Public Health and the Medical Health Officer.  Fraser Health is supporting KinVillage with a constant supply of PPE, staff and screening support as well as overall support with their clinical experts.”

KinVillage says staff working in South Court or West Court have risen to the challenge, working tirelessly to contain the spread of the virus.

“We applaud their focus and efforts. We are very happy and relieved residents of the Care Home and Assisted Living, and staff received the first dose of vaccine at one of Fraser Health’s first on-site COVID-19 vaccination clinics held at KinVillage,” KinVillage added. “Over 250 Care Home and Assisted Living residents and staff received the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Despite the current shortage we are optimistic that the second on-site vaccination clinic will be scheduled as soon as the vaccine supply becomes available.”
