A simple purchase of a cookie can go a long way in raising funds for much needed medical care for families around the province, including one family right here in Ladner.

The Optimist has profiled Owen Hill Davie and his family numerous times. The youngster continues to deal with a host of medical issues, including being unable to sit up, walk or stand due to low muscle tone, airway issues and feeding difficulties. He is also non-verbal.

Canuck Place has been a vital to the well-being of Owen, his mom Stephanie Hill Davie and their whole family for the past two years.

Now through her fundraising efforts, Owen’s school, Holly Elementary, is taking on a fundraising challenge in the second annual Canuck Place Cookie Day on Thursday, Feb. 27.

“Stephanie approached the school to see if there was anything we could do in conjunction with Canuck Place Cookie Day and absolutely we said we would love to,” said principal Keri Hanlon. “Owen’s class is doing all the publicity around the event. Their teacher is Megan Groom and it’s a Grade 2 class. We have done a pre-order for all our school families and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to Canuck Place.”

Cookies are for sale for $3 each. Contact the school at 604-946-0218 for more details. You can also donate directly to the cause at: https://my.canuckplace.org/fundraiser/2641651.

“Canuck Place is a place where we go to live and Owen can be a kid,” said Stephanie. “Canuck Place doesn't just care for Owen. His younger brother Oliver and sister Nora also receive services such as counselling and are invited to various events such as Canucks games. Canuck Place is a vital service and our family simply could not function without them.”
