City staff also recommended relaxing the noise bylaw during the event, noting the city will ensure notices are posted on the city's website and message boards to build awareness of May Days.

The Ladner Pioneer May Days is coming back to Memorial Park.

Forced to cancel in-person festival events for two years due to the pandemic’s outbreak, the easing of restrictions means May Days will take place this year from May 27 to 29.

It includes a May Days court ceremony, parade, fastball tournament, amusement rides and activities and a beer garden.

Council last week endorsed a recommendation to grant a $4,000 request from the festival committee for the 2022 event, which is a $500 increase from previous years.

Given increasing costs and the importance of supporting the recovery of community events from the COVID-19 pandemic, staff recommend increasing the funding, a report to council notes.

In addition, council agreed to $1,955 in in-kind funding to support park and facility rentals and highway use and beverage garden permits.

“Ladner Pioneer May Days provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to celebrate Delta's past and present, while promoting a strong sense of community pride and spirit,” the report adds.

The 2020 event had to be cancelled while last year’s May Days was virtual.

The planned hours of operation for the festival this year are as follows:

Friday, May 27 from 4 to 10 p.m.

Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Sunday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
