Ladner protest taking aim at port

The Occupy movement is getting a little closer to home next week for South Deltans.

The Occupy movement is getting a little closer to home next week for South Deltans.

On Monday, a group will meet at the Ladner bus loop for a "non-disruptive" demonstration to bring attention to local port issues - such as the proposed foreign trade zone and Terminal 2 expansion - before taking transit to join Occupy Vancouver to take part in the West Coast Coordinated Port Shutdown.

Occupiers in San Diego, Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Tacoma and Seattle are taking action at ports along the coast and are aiming to shut down ports in those cities, temporarily stopping the flow of capital on the west coast.

Occupy Vancouver is planning to block the New Brighton Port entrance.

The demonstration in Ladner is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. before protestors move onto the meet up with Occupy Vancouver at Callister Park in Vancouver at noon.
