Long-time Delta resident and retired school teacher Mary Lou Owen has generously donated more than $197,000 to the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation.

The money will be used to purchase a state-of-the-art Central Monitoring System for Delta’s busy hospital emergency department.

According to the Foundation, the hospital has seen a steady increase in ER visitation and admissions averaging 30,000 per year over the last two years. As part of the Fraser Health Authority, Delta Hospital is part of an integrated network of hospitals providing linked services with 11 other acute care sites within the authority.

As a result of the increased ER visitations and admissions, the hospital requires an upgraded Central Monitoring System. Advanced technology will improve efficiency, providing ER staff with continuous, seamless access to vital information on each patient visible on multiple monitors throughout the emergency department. When time is of the essence, the Central Monitoring System will expedite rapid care and provide connected patient monitoring between the emergency department and the medical floors.

Owen has been a resident of Ladner since 1980 and has proudly supported the Delta Hospital Campus of Care for 30 years. As a former member of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society, she volunteered in the hospital gift shop and the thrift shop.

“We are honoured to receive this incredibly generous gift from Mary Lou Owen,” says Lisa Hoglund, Executive Director, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation. “Ensuring Delta Hospital has state of-the-art equipment to provide the best possible patient care is our top priority. The new Central Monitoring System is a critical upgrade for our emergency department that will advance emergency patient care in Delta now and in the future.”
