A man allegedly uttered racial slurs at a woman and threw garbage at her before pushing a local man to the ground at a Canada Line Station in Vancouver, according to an eyewitness.

The local man, who we will call Julian, said he noticed a man yelling at a woman while he was waiting on the platform at the Broadway—City Hall Station on Saturday (Jan.22) just after 11:30 a.m. His name has been changed to protect his privacy.

The man was allegedly yelling at the woman, using "racist language," and "throwing litter at and around her," the witness explained.

When a train arrived, Julian and the woman tried to move to the furthest door away from the man. However, the man was "following" them so Julian tried to block the door. The man allegedly then told him to "mind his own business" and "ended up violently charging into [him] and [he] fell onto the ground."

Metro Vancouver Transit Police are currently investigating the incident and spokesperson Const. Michael Yake tells Vancouver Is Awesome that they can't comment on the racist slurs because the report does not indicate that the suspect uttered them.

"This is something that our officers will look into as the investigation unfolds," he said.

Once they were on the train, "all parties separated with no further reported issues," he added.

"Metro Vancouver Transit Police intercepted the train at Bridgeport Station; however, the suspect was no longer on board."

Transit Police investigators would like to speak to the female victim of the incident and anyone who witnessed the situation. Please contact the Metro Vancouver Transit Police at 604-515-8300 or text at 87-77-77.
