On Sept. 21 at approximately 10:35 a.m., Delta police responded to the 10300-block of Nordel Court in response to a man with a knife uttering threats to a woman.

The woman was out walking her dogs in the Delta Nature Reserve. She let her dogs off leash and continued southbound on the trail.

According to police, a man on a bike approaching from the north started yelling at the woman to leash her dogs. As the man got closer he produced a knife, dismounted from his bike and made a verbal threat toward the woman.

The woman left the area and stated she was going to call police. The man then fled on his bike northbound.

Police conducted patrols in an effort to locate the man in question but were met with negative results.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian, 30s, 6'1, stocky build, short dark hair (possibly curly), wearing a long sleeve blue shirt, grey baggy shorts and gloves (consistent with riding gloves).

The woman was not physically injured and the man fled immediately on hearing police would be called.

Although there have been no other recent similar incidents, police are taking the opportunity to remind and encourage citizens to employ personal safety measures such as:

- Walking in small groups

- Carrying a cell phone

- Staying in well lit and high traffic areas

- Drawing attention by yelling if approached by a stranger
