A person came away with minor injuries following a single-vehicle roll-over that saw a vehicle plunge into the Fraser River along River Road in Delta Wednesday afternoon.

Just after 2 p.m., Delta Police and Delta firefighters responded to the roll-over at River Road and 92nd Ave.

According to freelance journalist Shane MacKichan, who was at the scene, a Honda Element SUV was travelling westbound when it left the road and slammed through concrete barricades before hitting rocks along the shore and flipping on to its roof in the water.

“Luckily, Delta firefighters were able to get the driver out of vehicle before it became submerged,” said MacKichan. “He was then transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Delta Police had River Road blocked for hours while they investigated and had the vehicle towed out of the river.

Police have not released a cause of the incident.
