North Delta Crime Beat: Atmospheric River led to plenty of flooding and accidents

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in-progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls Delta police responded to in the previous week:

November 14 to 15 (weather related calls): Police attended multiple collisions due to flooding on Delta roadways, and Traffic and Patrol members assisted Delta Works with numerous flooded areas and stranded motorists. A reminder that BC has issued a State of Emergency, which includes travel restrictions and consumption limits on items like gasoline (30L maximum per vehicle).

November 15, 1:48 p.m., 8300 block Greenhill Place: Police were dispatched to a reported theft from vehicle after a catalytic converter was stolen from a vehicle overnight. The caller believes they saw someone running away with the item, but could not provide a plate, make, or model of the vehicle they got into. CCTV negative.

November 16, 10:27a.m., 10500 block Harrogate Drive: Police were dispatched to a reported stolen vehicle, which was parked in front of the owner’s residence with keys inside the vehicle. Police added the vehicle to Canadian Police Information System as stolen; it was located subsequently in Alberta by police.

November 17, 6:30 p.m., 11300 block 86 Avenue: Police were dispatched to a reported theft from vehicle, which was broken into while parked in the driveway of a residence. Vehicle likely left unlocked as no damage reported.

November 18, 10100 block Nordel Court: Police were dispatched to a reported explosives call after multiple sticks of mining explosives were located inside a storm drain which was being serviced. The RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit was consulted, and they advised officers on scene that the explosives were safe to seize them for destruction, as there was limited risk with this type of explosive. It is unclear how long the explosives were present at this location, and they may have been there for years.

November 19, 11:37 p.m., 10400 block River Road: Police were conducting proactive patrols in the vicinity of a local pub, and stopped a vehicle to check for sobriety. The driver admitted to consuming liquor, and was subsequently read the ASD Demand. A sample of “WARN” was provided, and the driver was issued a 3-Day driving prohibition without issue. The passenger, who was sober, drove the pair home.

November 19, 11:40 p.m., 10400 block River Road: Police were conducting proactive patrols in the vicinity of a local pub, and stopped a vehicle to check for sobriety. The driver and lone occupant both admitted to consuming alcohol, and the driver was and subsequently read the breath Demand. Two samples of “WARN” were provided, and the driver was issued a 3-Day driving prohibition and had their vehicle towed.
